Easy Mexican Rice Recipe: Spicy Spanish Rice Instructions:


Prepare Ingredients:

  • Measure 1 cup of rice.

  • Dissolve 3 bouillon cubes in 2 1/2 cups of hot water.

  • Gather cumin, tomato sauce, basil, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and oil.

Saute Rice:

  • In a pan with a lid, heat 2 tablespoons of oil over medium heat.

  • Add 1 cup of rice to the heated oil.

  • Stir the rice continuously for about 10 minutes or until it becomes lightly browned.

Add Tomato Sauce and Spices:

  • Pour in 1/3 cup of tomato sauce and continue stirring for an additional 2-3 minutes.

  • Add 1/2 tsp cumin, 1/4 tsp basil, 1 tsp garlic powder, and 1 tsp onion powder to the rice.

  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  • Stir well to combine the spices with the rice.

Prepare Bouillon Mixture:

  • Dissolve the 3 bouillon cubes in the hot water, ensuring they are completely dissolved.

Simmer Rice:

  • Slowly pour the bouillon mixture into the pan with the rice and spices.

  • Stir to combine and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.

  • Cover the pan with a lid and let it simmer for 10 minutes or until the water is absorbed.

Rest the Rice:

  • Remove the pan from the heat.

  • Keep the lid on and let the rice stand for an additional 10 minutes. Do not open the lid during this time.

Fluff and Serve:

  • After 10 minutes, carefully remove the lid.

  • Fluff the rice with a fork to separate the grains and mix the flavors.
