Baked Ziti (OAMC Style)
Ingredients:
1 pound ziti pasta, cooked al dente
1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage
1 onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried basil
Salt and black pepper to taste
2 cups ricotta cheese
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
In a large skillet, brown the ground beef or sausage over medium heat. Add chopped onions and garlic, and cook until the onions are softened.
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for about 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked ziti pasta with the ricotta cheese.
In a greased baking dish, layer half of the pasta mixture, followed by half of the meat sauce. Sprinkle with half of the mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses. Repeat the layers.
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and label it with reheating instructions.
Allow the dish to cool before placing it in the freezer.
To Reheat:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Remove the aluminum foil and cover the dish with a new piece.
Bake for 30-40 minutes or until heated through and bubbly.
Garnish with fresh basil or parsley if desired.
